Hi fellow science fiction and beer fans. I have written quite a lot about why I started the channel on my website and other forums. I've covered some of my plans for the channel. But I thought I'd specify them here:
1) I'd like to do more original programming. Those old movies are OK, but, well, they're old. I picked them because they're public domain. There are other Roku channels hat specialize in old SF movies, but none of those channels have original programming. This is one area that makes us really stand out.
I'd like to get that talk show going. Believe me, I tried doing a one man show. I got it to 30 minutes. I added titles, music, and all of that. And then I looked it over. Man, it sucked.,, big time. It will never see the light of day.
I need a co host. This apartment house has a semi regular influx of new upstairs residents. Since the upstairs apartment is just about always rented to women (most of them quite attractive), you'd think I'd have a good talent pool. The problem is that none of them live here long enough that I could use them as co hosts.
I need someone in the St. Louis/Lemay area. Someone who likes both science fiction and beer. Lemay residents would be preferred, simply because they would understand all of my jokes about Lemay. If the Monty Python troupe wanted to make a sketch parodying American towns, they could not come up with anything as absurd as what Lemay is in reality.
You would need to have your own transportation. For the moment, there will be no pay, but there will be plenty of home-brewed beer and snacks. On-screen drinking will not only be allowed-- it will be mandatory.
I'd like to see fan-produced films. Any subject would do, but naturally science fiction, beer, home brewing and science fiction conventions would top the list. If you have some old super 8 movies you made with claymation dinosaurs when you were a kid, for instance, I'd be happy to dub music, narration and sound effects on them an use them on the channel.
Right now, this is a one man operation. I've been spending way too many all nighters to get the channel, web page, blog and YouTube channel going.
One thing that might be controversial: when the channel has a good sized following, I plan on commecializing it. Yes, commercials are bad and yucky and waste time. But they bring in needed revenue. With that additional revenue, I could think about better equipment, and for that matter actually paying people for their work. At that point I suspect there would be all sorts of new people wanting to join the staff.
I'd like to see lots of comments about this. What would you folks like to see on the channel?
